Rosé wine values tasted in 2006

The selected vibrant bottlings have given me much pleasure for the price. I have purchased them again for personal consumption. Featured values include 5 wines from Provence and 5 organic wines.

The below wines were tasted in France, in 2006 (between April and December). The tasting notes are listed by increasing prices, with the following format:

Appellation – producer – plot or brand – variety

Approximate price — vintage — general impression – on nose – on palate – after swallowing

Vin de pays des maures — Domaine Turenne — Aubrégades — [Cinsault 90%]

4 € — 2005 — a scent of peach skin - dense, mouth-watering, alcohol shows much, fresh

Vin de pays du Var — Patrick Mourlan - Bastide des Oliviers — (rosé)

— 2005 — not much manipulated (much less so than Pique-Roque) - not much scent - round, strawberry, dense, much alcohol, fresh

Vin de table — Le Mazel — Pétillant rosé — Carignan

— [2004] — not much showing on the nose - pink grapefruit, few mid-sized bubbles, very sweet, fresh, a note of brewer’s yeast (slightly acidic and bitter)

Vin de pays des maures — Pique-Roque

— 2005 — out of the present pick of blush wines, Pique-Roque is the only one that is not organic, it is our standard representative of the Provence rosé wines, complete with flower and apparent winemaking - the nose is dominated by flower - the wide mouth presence shows neither fat nor the fudge note of some Provence rosés, instead it shows flower and freshness

Côtes-de-provence wine labelCôtes de provence — Domaine Turenne — Camille — [Cinsault 80%]

— 2005 — the grape expresses itself finely thanks to a supportive winemaking (as opposed to obtrusive) - dust, carambola (star fruit) - no flower, a lot of fruit (carambola, a hint of redcurrant), much alcohol (wide), fresh

Coteaux varois — Patrick Mourlan - Bastide des Oliviers — (rosé)

7 € — 2005 — very pure - the palate shows nectarine, density, tiny gas beads, and freshness
