French red wine values tasted in 2009

The selected vibrant bottlings have given me much pleasure for the price. I have purchased them again for personal consumption. Featured values include 3 Languedoc reds and 4 Rhones.

The below wines were tasted in France, in 2009 (between April and December). The tasting notes are listed by increasing prices, with the following format:

Vdp — Domaine Sainte-Léocadie — (bib cubitainer de 5l)

— 2007 (et pas une autre année) — it makes you tremble if you have drunk too much of it - a lot of fruit, dense but easy to drink, impactful but the balance is food friendly

Vin de pays d’oc — Intervins — Mis en bouteille à F-11000 — Cabernet sauvignon

2 € — 2008 — the nose is varietal (with red pepper) - the fruit is scrambled, the structure is standard : it dries the mouth a bit, the alcohol is moderate, the balance is frank

Vin de pays des Coteaux de l’Ardèche — Vignerons ardéchois — Cuvée Modestine — Gamay

— 2007 — a nose of ripe black cherry - ripe black cherry on the palate too, the fruit may be dirty on account of grape mold manipulation, a firm balance

— 2009 — decent mass product - red fruit - banana, a little stiff, refreshing

— 2008 — red fruit dominates the smell - in the mouth : a lot of red fruit (cherry) too but no fruit jelly, the wine is wide and slightly dries the palate, it shows a hint of volatile acidity on opening but stays vinous and balanced for weeks
